Who we are
We are ChatArchive.tv, an independent project that provides an online archive of publicly available Twitch streams and their associated chat messages. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Twitch.tv or any streamers. All data shown on this website is collected and displayed independently.
What data we process
- Twitch chat: We store only publicly available Twitch chat messages, including the username and the text of the message. No other personal data is collected or stored.
- Analytics: We use Ahrefs analytics. Your IP address may be transmitted to Ahrefs for traffic analysis. We do not store this data ourselves.
- Hosting: Our service is self-hosted on our own infrastructure, with the website delivered through Cloudflare's content delivery network and Cloudflare Tunnel. For technical reasons, your IP address is processed by Cloudflare when you access the site. We do not store your IP address in our own logs.
- Anti-abuse protection: We use Fingerprint to prevent misuse of our service (e.g. scraping or bot abuse). Fingerprint generates a unique technical identifier from your browser and device information. We do not use this for marketing or advertising, only for security purposes.
- Twitch login & Dashboard: You may optionally log in with your Twitch account via OAuth (implemented in-house, not through a third-party auth provider). When you do, we receive and store your Twitch user ID, username (login), display name, profile picture URL, and email address. We do not receive your Twitch password. This information is used solely to provide your personalised Dashboard — streamers see their channel statistics and recent streams, while viewers see a summary of their public chat activity across archived channels. Your login session is stored in a browser cookie (with a 7-day expiry). You can log out at any time, which clears your session. You may also request deletion of your account data by contacting us.
- Channel requests: When you add a channel to the archive, we store the channel name you submit. No other personal data about you is collected as part of that request.
- Waiting list: If you join our waiting list, we store your email address, the role you select (streamer, viewer, editor, other), and — only if you choose to provide them — your Twitch username and a channel name. We use this solely to contact you about the launch of paid plans and your early-access discount. We do not use it for any other marketing and never share it with third parties. You can ask to be removed from the list at any time by contacting us, and we delete the list data once launch communication is complete.
- Message removal requests: If you ask us to remove your chat messages, we store the Twitch username you submit, the scope of your request, your email address if you provide one (used only to verify the request and confirm completion), and the request status. This record is kept as proof that the deletion was carried out.
We encourage visitors to use ad blockers if they prefer — ChatArchive.tv does not rely on ads, and your browsing experience will not be negatively affected by blocking trackers or ads.
Legal basis
We process publicly available Twitch chat data on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in providing an archive of public conversations. Fingerprint data is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in protecting the service from misuse and ensuring availability for all users. When you log in with Twitch, your account data is processed on the basis of your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — you actively choose to authenticate and can withdraw consent by logging out or requesting account deletion. We do not process data for advertising purposes.
Data retention
Twitch chat messages are stored without a time limit as part of the archive, unless you request their removal (see below). If you log in with Twitch, your user profile (Twitch user ID, username, display name, avatar URL) is retained until you request deletion. No IP addresses or non-public personal data are stored.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, and object to processing of your personal data.
Removing your chat messages
You can have your archived chat messages deleted at any time using our self-service form at chatarchive.tv/remove-my-messages. You can choose to remove your messages from the entire archive or from a single channel, and you can additionally opt out of having your messages archived in the future. This implements your right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) and your right to object (Art. 21 GDPR).
Requests are processed within 30 days, usually within a few days. If you submit the request while logged in with Twitch, your identity is verified automatically; otherwise we may contact you to confirm the Twitch account is yours before deleting. Deletion is permanent. Streamers who wish their entire channel's archive removed can contact us directly at the addresses below.
