The chat side of Twitch, kept
Streams get clipped and VODs expire, but chat vanishes the moment it scrolls past. ChatArchive records it as it happens, keeps it forever, and turns it into something you can search, replay and learn from.
How it works
No bots in your chat, no extensions to install, nothing for viewers to set up.
1. We listen like a viewer
Our recorders join Twitch chat with a read-only connection and capture every public message the moment it is sent, along with badges, timestamps and stream metadata.
2. Every message keeps its context
Messages are stored together with the stream they belong to: its title, the game or category at that exact moment, and where in the stream they happened. Chat replay shows the conversation exactly as it unfolded.
3. We analyze every minute
For each stream we compute messages per minute and unique chatters, then flag the spikes: raids, emote walls and activity surges become marked hype moments on the stream's timeline.
Why we build this
Viewer counts tell you how many people watched. Chat tells you what they cared about. A raid landing, an emote wall after a clutch play, the running joke that carried a four-hour stream — that history is worth keeping, for the streamer who wants to understand their community and for the viewer who was part of it. ChatArchive is an independent project: we are not affiliated with Twitch or with any streamer, and the service runs on our own hardware. The archive is free to browse, and paid plans fund the recording that makes it possible.
Fair to chatters and streamers, by design
We only store what was publicly posted in chat — no IP addresses, no tracking profiles, no private data. Anyone can have their messages removed from the archive at any time.
Streamers stay in control of their whole channel, too. Log in with Twitch and the Channel Privacy card in your dashboard lets you stop us from saving your channel's chat at any time — it takes effect within minutes, and opted-out channels are clearly marked on the channels page. Our full practices are documented in the privacy policy.
